Our beautiful girl...

I have a ton of beautiful pictures to share with you (bluebonnets, first haircut, Easter, etc.) but since my computer is out of commission it is only possible for me to blog at work... and as you can imagine there's not much time for that. But stay tuned and I'll post them... I promise!

For now, I wanted to share a quick picture of Sofia that my sister, Emily, took this past weekend during her short visit. I just love it!

Happy Birthday, Daddy!

Sofia and Daddy at the Bayou last weekend

Today Dan turns 37. We're going to celebrate this weekend with a small gathering of friends at a local restaurant but tonight me and Sofia are taking him to eat his favorite: sushi. It should be fun.

This morning when Dan was in the shower I hijacked his cell phone, removed the sim card and inserted it into a brand new iPhone I got him as a surprise. I put the new phone in a gift bag and put it in the kitchen next to all of Sofia's Easter supplies for daycare so he wouldn't notice it. I then nonchalantly asked him where his phone was because I needed a number out of it. When he couldn't find it I told him to call it; when he did, the little bag on the counter started to ring. He was pretty confused but looked in there and saw the little silver Apple logo on a black box. He couldn't believe it. He was so excited, like a little boy on Christmas. After that though it was as if I weren't in the room! He was so busy playing with it. I was so happy he liked his gift. He was very surprised, especially since he's never really mentioned wanting one, but he had always mentioned how cool they were. I loved getting him a gift that I knew he would never buy himself.

As most of you know, Dan's really a great guy. He's been a great husband these past seven years and really proved to be an even better Daddy to Sofia.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAN!!! WE LOVE YOU!

Bluebonnets Teaser

As any good Texan knows, every baby must have their picture taken in a field of bluebonnets.

So...we went out to Buffalo Bayou near Grandma and Grandpa's house to take pictures of Sofia in the bluebonnets. Luckily, there were still some there. We got some good shots of her in bluebonnets and in the Indian paintbrushes. Grandma was the main photographer and since I haven't gotten a chance to go through her shots yet I thought I'd post one of mine for now as a teaser. I'll post more when I go through them.

Rocking Elephant

This video is a little long but those die-hard Sofia followers won't mind. Plus, if you wait until the very end she'll blow you a kiss.

This is the rocking elephant that Emi gave her for her first birthday. She absolutely loves it. She loves rocking on it, taking it for walks (in which I'm mortified she'll cut off a toe, but whatever!), wrinkling his noisy ears and she loves getting on and off as long as we have the patience for.

REAL walking!

On March 25th we were in Sofia's room talking when suddenly Dan stops me and says, "shhh... look." And there she was... walking... all on her own. No coercion, no hand holding, nothing, just a little baby who wanted a magazine that was sitting on a chair. Seems she's growing up! I didn't get video of it at the time but the next day I took the video below. This video is great too because not only does she walk really well on her own but she also throws in a little dance and attempts to say, "I love you." So cute...

It's the strangest thing about being a mother: sometimes I look at her and I still see that newborn that kept us up at night and kept me so confused, then other times I see a little girl. I suppose she's in between. Sometimes just one look at her can bring me to tears, we just love her so much and it's so hard to capture all these precious moments. I wish we could hold on to them and relive them whenever we wished but the reality is that time keeps moving and we all keep changing.

At least we have this little blog so we can go back and see her first steps whenever we wish.

Enjoy!

15 Month Check Up

This is how she sleeps

Well, Sofia turned 15 months last week. It was quite a monumental birthday because it was the first day she decided to walk on her own, and I mean, really walk. I'll post video next...

But today was her 15 month check up. She weighed 22 lbs. 1 oz. is 31" in height and her head circumference is 46 cm.

It seems she may not be my daughter because she is in the 40th percentile in weight. And she may not be Dan's daughter either seeing as she was in the 70th percentile in height. She was 50th in head circumference.

Walking

Well it seems Sofia's not too keen on the whole walking thing, which to be perfectly honest, is fine with me. She has pretty good balance, can stand on her own for quite some time, and she can take steps really well. She just has not figured a way to put those two things together. I think she walks a bit like Frankenstein, but like a really, really cute Frankenstein!

Here are a couple of videos Grandma took this past weekend. You can hear in the background just how much coercion it requires!
